Ibn Sina Medical College was established in 2005 and it is situated in the capital city of Dhaka. The college is affiliated by the University of Bangladesh and is a well-recognized institute for the study of medicine. Ibn Sina Medical College is a non-profit institution of Ibn Sina Trust, named after Ibn Sina, a Persian philosopher, physician and medical scientist. The college is a reputed institution and the fourteen story college building comprises a hospital as well, with 250 beds and it is one of the cheapest hospitals of the city and the country. The objective of the college is to provide the best education and proper training, that is why, along with the Bachelor in Medicine, Bachelor in Surgery (MBBS) degree, a one-year internship after graduation is compulsory for the students. The degree of the college is recognized by the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council.
The objective of the college is to create a humanitarian approach in the medical profession, therefore the training process displays such characteristics in order to develop a humane outlook in the understudies.
The college offers a five year course of study, approved by the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council, awarding MBBS degree, under the affiliation of the University of Dhaka. After completing the degree, the students are required to do compulsory one-year internship in the University hospital itself, to gain experience in practice. The college has an education module in regard to other government colleges, the course mutually figured and approved by the Service of Wellbeing and Family Welfare (MOHFW), the University of Dhaka and the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC).
The college also has collaborations internationally, with various prestigious medical institutes of the United States of America and the United Kingdom, including the College of Illinois, Chicago and the London School of Cleanliness and Tropical Solutions.
The college provides safe and comfortable accommodation for all local and international students. The rooms are given on a twin-sharing basis. The hostel rooms are fully furnished. The hostel is equipped with laundry services and a hygienic and sanitized mess, with provisions for Indian food as well. The campus is fully secured with adequate provisions for the security of their students.
The student life of the college is filled with fun but the schedule is hectic. Since the university adheres to their objective of creating doctors with compassion and humanity, utmost attention is paid to the training program. There are provisions for extracurricular activities for the students, in terms of sports, debates, etc. Bangladesh Journal of Medical Science, which is listed with Scopus, is the official journal of the college. It is an open access journal, which is published quarterly. It accepts original research articles, review articles, interesting case reports, and short communications containing significant findings of the world of medical studies. This also provides a good opportunity for the students to record their experiences and read about other major breakthrough cases of medical history.
